Kevin J. Doyle is the designer and builder of the Newport Runabout motor yacht. He formed Newport Yacht & Launch Company, in March 2002. The company designs and manufactures motor yachts and launches from twenty to forty feet in length, for both the recreational and commercial markets.
Mr. Doyle has been immersed in engineering and design in the marine field for over fourteen years. As an independent consultant, he engineered the Katama-30 jet boat for C.W. As an engineering consultant he worked on several large classic yacht restoration projects including Alondra, Belle, Onawa, Jem, Scout, and Zapala principally for McMillen Yachts of Newport, RI. These mainly wood historic yachts underwent extensive restoration, while obtaining USCG Certification for passenger vessels. www.WoodenYachts.com Mr. Doyle has also consulted on numerous re-powering projects of private and commercial vessels ranging from sailing yachts to motor cruisers and sport fishing boats up to 90’.
His experience encompasses hydrodynamic design; structural engineering with various materials including wood, steel, aluminum, and advanced composites; propulsion system engineering; resistance and speed estimates; propeller selection and analysis; design and technical experience in marine propulsion equipment, including waterjets; as well as noise attenuation and sound abatement. Additional skills compliment his marine technical core, including design for manufacturing; production planning and management; and establishing computer databases for production, inventory, and purchasing.
Educated at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
He resides in Newport, Rhode Island, and is a runner and avid sailor.
